The Leak Check and Evacuation course presents three methods for checking a system for leaks and the processes to follow. Given the advantages and disadvantages of each method, you will follow through a step-by-step illustration of each. As you're guided through, you will be given tips and safety information by subject matter expert Frank Garro. You will be informed of the many types of leak detectors on the market today, and what to look for in determining what is right for you. After leak checks are complete you will learn about the Environmental Protection Agency’s regulations regarding leak repairs. Finally explore how the system will be evacuated, with clear instructions and diagram. As you discover evacuation methods you will be introduced to the vacuum pump, and the accompanying equipment that can help make an evacuation more accurate and efficient.

Learn how to locate a leak by using soap bubbles and an electronic leak detector on a residential system. After repairing the leak evacuate the unit and then use the subcooling method to charge it.

This course simulates maintenance scenarios in three contexts in an apartment environment: a rental office, a fitness center, and a parking lot. You will learn to diagnose and correct problems with fluorescent and High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting, in the rental office and parking lot spaces respectively, while the fitness center space will provide practice with troubleshooting electrical equipment in a commercial context.

This is an assessment simulation, where you'll use the steps and skills you've learned and practiced on the Interplay platform to determine the fault and fix each scenario. Use the bottom tool bar to navigate around the environment, inspect components, access tools, and view diagrams. This is designed to mimic a real-world scenario, so there's no step by step guide giving you instructions for how to troubleshoot the scenario.

This course is a primer on lockout/tagout procedures. The course begins with the definition and purpose of lockout/tagout procedures, followed by employee roles during lockout/tagout. A discussion of hazardous energies is included, specifically primary, secondary, single, and multiple energy sources, with an emphasis on identifying all energy sources during lockout/tagout procedures. The course concludes with eight practical steps for an effective lockout/tagout program.

This course is designed to increase learners’ awareness of the lockout/tagout energy control procedure. Main topics of instruction include an outline of regulatory lockout/tagout procedures, applicable definitions and terminology, and an overview of standard tools and devices. In addition to instructional lessons, this course contains a simulation video demonstrating the implementation and removal of lockout/tagout devices.

This course will cover the impact low global warming potential refrigerants are having on the HVAC landscape. Learners will explore the history of refrigerants and come to understand their chemical composition and safety characteristics. They will also be able to recall best practices for working with A2L refrigerants. Finally, learners will be able to recall the tools, safety, code, and regulations involved in working with refrigerants. This course was developed in collaboration with NATE.

This Make Ready Course will provide you with the structure and procedures to perform a make ready inspection. The course begins with an overview of the clipboard and important information about the apartment itself. Next, you will see a video walkthrough for each room that goes through the various procedures and input fields in which record your results. After the videos you will engage in six separate training inspection simulations where you will traverse the apartment room by room, marking the condition of different components and fixtures within the unit. Finally, the training wheels are taken off and you will complete six randomly generated inspections with less help from the procedures and clipboard.

Manual D is the industry standard protocol for calculating the size required for return and supply ducts and registers. You will learn how HVAC technicians use the Manual D protocols to calculate duct and register requirements to ensure the appropriate distribution of heating and cooling to each area in a designated space.

In this course we will explore how Manual J protocols are used for calculating and designing HVAC systems in residential buildings. Manual J is the industry standard protocol for calculating heating and cooling loads. You will learn how HVAC technicians calculate and use the Manual J heating and cooling load results to select the appropriate HVAC equipment capacity.
