In this course we will provide an overview of packaged units, split systems, ductless, and PTAC units. In this Introduction to Electrical Code course, you will learn about the National Electrical Code, which is a set of guidelines that covers the best ways to do electrical work in residential and commercial settings. This course focuses on residential guidelines, beginning by explaining where to place wall receptacles, ground fault protection as well as AFCI retrofitting. You will then go through the specific requirements for each room, including the living room, laundry room and garage. Finally, you will learn how the code varies across the country as well as how to navigate these differences.

Intro to Fire Safety and Portable Fire Extinguishers" is designed to increase learners’ awareness of the chemistry behind creating and eliminating a fire, the different classifications of fire, the most common fire hazards present within the workplace, best practices for fire prevention, the key components of a portable fire suppression equipment, how to perform a fire extinguisher inspection, and guidelines for evacuating to safety.

This course is an overview of how heat pumps work and what makes them different from air conditioning. It covers piston type heat pumps and heat pumps with a thermostatic expansion valve.

Introduction to Mechanical Code is an overview of the International Mechanical Code (IMC) requirements for residential HVAC equipment installation. It focuses on plumbing, electrical and various other codes and industry standards used to properly and safely install HVAC equipment.

In this course, we’ll start off with a couple lessons that identify the various components of the appliances before we delve into the different configurations available and their actual operation. Washers and dryers may seem like simple appliances, but they actually have quite a bit going on to make sure that they function properly. This is a great course to introduce you to them and provide you with a general understanding.

This course is an introduction to cold climate heat pumps and the advances in technology made to these units. In this course, you will learn the various types of heat pumps that are used in cold climates and the requirements a unit must meet in order for installation. You’ll also learn how cold climate heat pumps differ from traditional heat pumps in regards to efficiency and cost and how balance points can impact heat pump performance.

An Air Handling Unit, or AHU, plays an important role in a commercial HVAC system. In this course, we cover the foundational information you would need to know when working with AHUs. Specifically, we will talk about what AHUs are, how they operate, and the main components. Then we will briefly go over some common problems that occur and their indicators. Last, we will go through some of the different types that you will encounter.

An electrical plan for a room or house can look like a super complicated maze of lines and symbols! So in this course, we break it all down for you. An electrical plan shows single lines for all the circuits, and symbols for receptacles, switches, different types of lights, and so on. We actually go line by line and symbol by symbol through a variety of rooms in a house – actually the same house we use for our residential wiring troubleshooting simulations. Each room is designed to include a new element, and a little more complexity, so you gradually progress through 5 different electrical plan scenarios. The circuits are deliberately designed to familiarize you with different components, like 3- and 4-way switching, standard and GFCI receptacles, and 2- and 3-wire cabling. We also take different approaches to circuit design like having switches at the start or end of a run, and operating two fixed appliances with one cable in a multi-wire branch circuit that shares a common neutral. By the end of the course, you’ll be comfortable reading complex electrical plans and will have an appreciation for the variety of ways room circuits can be designed.

A pump is a device for lifting, transferring, or moving fluids by suction or pressure from one position to another. This course covers how pumps are used to move liquid--primarily water--through hydronic HVAC systems. You will learn the basic mechanics and hydrodynamics by which a pump moves water with a focus on centrifugal impeller pumps, including the components and operation of these pumps in commercial hydronic HVAC systems.
