This Site Assessment course demonstrates the value of an on-site inspection of a residential solar customer’s home in an immersive way. You will teleport around the home to complete a checklist, perform a detailed examination of the roof surfaces and note the types of obstructions and poor roof conditions that may affect module placement. You will assess any dangerous ground or roof situations, gather critical electrical panel parameters, and examine inside the attic - something no aerial based software can possibly do for you.

This Solar Cell Technology course builds upon the Foundations of PV course, delving into more detail about the key component that makes up all solar photovoltaic power systems - the solar cell itself. We give a big picture of all the types of cell technologies being worked on today, and then explore in more detail the three main cell types that are currently being widely installed - single crystal silicon, polycrystalline silicon and thin film CdTe.

In Electrical Installation, you move on from the array to complete the assembly of an entire residential system. You begin with a blank wall where you mount the AC disconnect, a revenue grade meter, and a string inverter. Conduit sections are assembled and secured to the roof and walls. You pull wires from the ground all the way up to the array junction box, and then strip and land all your circuit connections on their respective terminals. And you complete your system assembly by placing NEC required labels on all the enclosures and conduit.

In this Solar Module Design course, we examine the construction elements of a standard module, and then explore alternatives to this 40 year old design. We look at alternative module constructions, and explore how modules can be integrated into building structures as shingles and tiles as well as commercial glass walls. We look at details of how modules are framed, and how the cells in the protected circuits are interconnected with different materials and geometries.

The Solar System Troubleshooting course you will learn to work backwards from a faulted electrical condition to discover the root cause of your electrical problem. Your primary tools are a digital multimeter and megohmmeter, plus your powers of observation. You work through a wide variety of faulted conditions, including no DC power coming from the solar array, no AC power coming from the utility side, and a ground fault indication. You also deal with a system that is fully operational but is producing too little power. By systematically looking for and eliminating typical mistakes, you eventually get to your root cause.

A brief overview of Solid State Electronics as it relates to the residential HVAC industry. In this course we will explore the application and usage of various solid state electronic devices and how they impact circuits in which they are used. This course is intended to provide a basic understanding of the principles of semiconductors and other solid state components. After an overview of individual components, electromagnetic relays are compared to solid state relays. The course will identify how to use the principles behind symbols and diagrams for wiring and electrical considerations.

In the Symbols and Wiring course you will translate everything you’ve learned about HVACR into symbols on a diagram. From relays and contactors, to safety switches and loads, you will understand the reasoning behind each symbolic representation. After you have mastered symbols, you will move on to wiring diagrams, where you will learn the different formats and their advantages in the field. You will learn the standards of HVACR wiring diagrams, which will prepare you to take on any manufacturer’s schematic style. You will use what you have learned throughout the beginning of the course, to transpose real life systems into actual working diagrams.
