Cooling infrastructure is a critical support system in data center operations. It directly affects equipment reliability, energy efficiency, safety, and overall uptime. Unlike most industrial facilities, data centers operate continuously, support high and variable heat loads, and require strict environmental conditions to protect IT equipment. These requirements necessitate the use of specialized cooling systems, operating practices, and maintenance procedures. This course introduces data center technicians to the purpose, configuration, and operation of cooling infrastructure commonly found in Tier III data center environments, where redundancy and concurrent maintainability are essential. Learners will examine air- and liquid-based cooling systems, heat-rejection equipment, environmental control strategies, and the mechanical and electrical systems that support cooling operations. The course also emphasizes the practical application of codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, such as those from ASHRAE, NFPA, the International Code Council, and OSHA to support safe, compliant, and reliable cooling system operation.
