Respirable crystalline silica (RCS) is a serious health hazard found in many construction materials. This course is designed to educate trade professionals about the dangers of silica exposure and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to work safely in environments where silica dust may be present. Learners will gain a clear understanding of what crystalline silica is, how and where exposure occurs during common construction tasks, and the health risks associated with inhaling silica dust. The course also explores OSHA's permissible exposure limits (PEL), the significance of the 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA), and action level thresholds that trigger required safety measures. Learners will identify and apply effective engineering controls, safe work practices, and personal protective equipment (PPE) strategies.
