In this course, we’re going to be exploring the 2020 version of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code®. We will focus on a broad understanding of the material, so you can access and reference the codebook more easily when needed. As a whole, NFPA 70 consists of a total of nine chapters, but not all apply to residential applications. Chapters one through four apply generally to all electrical installations, including Methods and Materials in Chapter 3. The NEC goes over specific areas for types of wires and where they are acceptable to be installed, and how they should be installed and protected from environmental and physical damage. We will cover the most impactful sections of the chapter, including conductors and cables, cabinets, cutout boxes and meter socket enclosures; outlet, device, pull, and junction boxes; conduit bodies, fittings, and handhole enclosures, as well as various types of cables and other wiring installations that may apply to residential applications, and some commercial and urban applications, as well.
