In this course, we will introduce you to residential gas piping and the basics of fuel gas in a residential setting, from the point that it enters the home up to the control valve serving individual appliances. We will orient you to the two main kinds of fuel gas – natural gas and liquid propane gas – their basic characteristics, where they come from, and how they are typically distributed to homes. We will identify the very serious risks of gas leaks and how to spot and respond to danger. We will outline key safety codes and best practices that can help you prevent danger in the first place. Finally, we will introduce the basic methods and materials of pipes, tubes, fittings, pipe support and protection, and pipe sizing.
